I'm thinking of burrying my own time capsule I think it is a great idea. My school just dug one up that they burryied when the school was made under a big rock. Maybe you could include weather charts or prices off stuff.

I hope I have helped you.

Goedit, thanks for the advice. How did you get to be knowledgeable about materials? I have heard horror stories about time capsules whose contents are reduced to a sloppy pulp by the time they are opened up...

I think Making a time capsule is a great idea, however, be aware of the corrosive properties of PVC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UPVC#Unplasticized_polyvinyl_chloride_.28uPVC.29

A good hint that it's coorsive is that PVC pipe is for use in SEWAGE drains for homes and businesses, not for drinking water. You need for find another type of plastic in order for the contents of your time capsule make it through the 25-50 years you plan on keeping it sealed.

Hint, Use a copper or aluminum container and push the air out of it using argon gas. Silica gel is good to soak up any moisture, but it only lasts for 6 months so your 50 year old Time capsule will not last the test of time if mosture seaps in to your container...

Hi Stone! I am in Montreal now until January, shall we chase up the time capsule when I return? Or do you wanna start at your end? Got any ideas what we could use for the capsule itself?

Hope all is well on your side of the tracks. Apologies for the drop in user-friendliness of the site. Can you be specific about the difficulties youve had?

Where to bury the capsule is a tricky one - I guess the idea of burying time capsules is form a time when there were more fields and pastures around. How to find somehere in Petersham (or anywhere in the inner west) that you know won't be concreted over, or have a house on it, in 20 yrs time? A park or a school oval would be obvious choices. Other than that the only uncovered spaces I can think of are backyards, nature strips and the gullies beside the railways tracks.
I think 30 years would be a good stretch of time to leave it buried. 1987 doesn't seem like long enough ago to me..
